I. Call to Order
Board Chairperson Roy Takumi called the Board of Education (Board) Special Meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
II. Swearing in of board members
Mark Recktenwald, Chief Justice, Hawaii Supreme Court, swore in board members Elynne Chung, Wesley Lo, and Roy Takumi.
III. Introduction of new board members -- Elynne Chung, Wesley Lo, and Roy M. Takumi
Board Chairperson Takumi called for public testimony on agenda item III.
Vanessa Ott, member of the public, testified that Board of Education (Board) discussions and actions further the goals of the Hawaii public education system and emphasized that more participation from stakeholders will lead to positive changes for public education.
IV. Action Item
A. Board action on the election of committee leadership and committee members
Board Chairperson Takumi called for public testimony on agenda item III. No testimony was provided.
ACTION: Motion to appoint the Board’s standing committee chairpersons, committee vice chairpersons, and committee members as outlined in Exhibit A of Board Chairperson Takumi’s memorandum dated May 9, 2024. (Kuraya/McClellan). The motion was carried through unanimous consent from all members present.
V. Adjournment
Board Chairperson Takumi adjourned the meeting at 9:18 a.m.
